گفت‌وگوی بلند (حدود ۱ ساعت و ۴۰ دقیقه، به انگلیسی) رافائلا سیورت از «فری پرس» با محسن سازگارا، در روزهای نخست جنگ. سازگارا از همراهی با خمینی در نوفل‌لوشاتو و پرواز بازگشت به تهران، نقشش در طرح اولیه سپاه پاسداران به‌عنوان ارتشی مردمی و کوچک، و دیدن شکنجه در زندان اوین در سال ۱۳۶۳ و گزارش آن به خمینی می‌گوید؛ تجربه‌ای که او را به بازخوانی «ولایت فقیه» و گسستن از نظام رساند. او از تمرکز قدرت به دست خامنه‌ای، شکست جنبش اصلاحات، درخواست همه‌پرسی قانون اساسی، زندان و اعتصاب غذا سخن می‌گوید و سپس جنگ کنونی را تحلیل می‌کند: راهبرد ایران، اسرائیل و آمریکا، شرایط ریزش نیروهای سپاه و بسیج، و پیشنهاد «شورای آشتی ملی» به‌جای تکیه بر یک فرد.
A long English-language conversation (about 1 hour 40 minutes) with Rafaela Siewert of The Free Press, recorded in the first weeks of the war. Sazegara recalls working alongside Khomeini at Neauphle-le-Château and the flight back to Tehran, his part in the original design of the Revolutionary Guard as a small people's army, and witnessing torture at Evin in 1984 and reporting it to Khomeini, which led him to reread Velayat-e Faqih and break with the system. He discusses Khamenei's consolidation of power, the failure of the reform movement, his call for a constitutional referendum, prison and hunger strikes, and then analyses the current war: the strategies of Iran, Israel and the U.S., what it would take for IRGC and Basij members to defect, and his proposal for a national reconciliation council rather than reliance on any one figure.
